The interesting thing about empathy, though, is that it’s not easy to teach. Yet there are some ways to instill and inspire it. One way is to read books that touch on the subject and can spark a conversation about what it means to be empathetic and compassionate. The following books can help you do just that.   A. 1. Richard Alston, Soldier and Society in Roman Egypt.A Social History. Soldier and Society in Roman Egypt provides a complete reassessment of the impact of the Roman army on local societies, and convincingly challenges the orthodox picture. The soldiers are seen not as an isolated elite living in fear of the local populations, but as relatively well-integrated into local communities.

For me, this one is just a leeeeeettle on the verge of too weird, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Roald Dahl. We read this one while we were in Europe, but then we went back and listened to the audio this year, and I liked it better with a professional reading it to me. Ramona series by Beverly Cleary This is probably my #1 read-aloud series. An amazing collection of more than of the best picture books as voted by over parents. Some titles on the list are new releases in the the world of story books while others have stood the test of time. Perfect for reading aloud at home or school.
