The Mufti’s rise to power was itself owed to intrigues. The British, who ruled Mandate Palestine after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, made al-Husseini the grand mufti of Jerusalem in , making him both the country’s highest Muslim cleric and leading Arab political figure.

To wit, "The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem is the Sunni Muslim cleric in charge of Jerusalem's Islamic holy places, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque." The Nation article says: "The cleric in charge of the holy places, Sheik Ikrima Sabri, is the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, one of the most influential religious leaders in Palestine.". Haj - Amin became Mufti of Jerusalem in and President of the Supreme Muslim Council in (Maurice Pearlman: Mufti of Jerusalem: The story of Haj Amin al - .

The essential quote from Hannah Arendt`s Eichmann in Jerusalem: "The trial revealed only that all rumours about Eichmann's connection with Haj Amin el Husseini, the former Mufti of Jerusalem, were unfounded. (He had been introduced to the Mufti during an official reception, along with all other department heads)." is, of course, indispensable. The Serbian-Israeli historian Jennie Lebel illuminates in this book the relationship between the grand mufti of Jerusalem, Amin al-Husaini, and Adolf Hitler’s Nazis. Lebel is an independent academic who lives in Tel Aviv.

The Mufti of Jerusalem: Al-Hajj Amin Al-Husayni and the Palestinian National Movement Revised Edition by Philp Mattar (Author) out of 5 stars 4 ratingsCited by:   Anyway, the book has its own merits and thanks to Pavilion Press it is available for new readers.

On the net only a few pages are posted ([ ]). The new editors changed the title a bit (now "Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Aman el Husseinmi, A Father of Jihad" instead of "Mufti of Jerusalem - The Story of Haj Amin el Husseini"), and they changed the lay out/5(4). Haj-Amin el-Husseini (), self-proclaimed Grand Mufti (a non-existent, invented title) of Jerusalem, was one of the greatest international criminals in the first half of the XX century.

Under the guise of religious activities, he in fact incited and organized violence, including murders, first against the Jews in Palestine and the 4/5(2).

The book is directed primarily at the four years which the Mufti of Jerusalem, with his staff of some 60 persons and a secret service of his own, spent in Berlin as a guest and at the expense of the Third Reich.

Although seen as only a four year period of time, even today, this period continues to poison the Israeli-Arab relationship. Cited by: 3. Mufti of Jerusalem by Moshe Perlman () on *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Mufti of Jerusalem by Moshe Perlman ()/5(4).
